The Labour Law Reform Coalition (LLRC) and the Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) in Sabah are urging for immediate amendments to the Sabah and Sarawak Labour Ordinance (SLO). They argue that delays in amending the SLO compared to similar legislation in Peninsular Malaysia have led to significant financial losses for workers in these regions, estimating up to 200 million ringgit annually. The lack of legislative progress has been attributed to political distractions and elections, with calls for elected officials to prioritize worker benefits and ensure equal rights in line with the Federal Constitution's nondiscrimination principle.
